designed to handle your storm

I feel like a lost soul, merely drifting from shore to shore looking for any place that feels like home. The most familiar shores are the ones I find my way back to when I'm just too tired to keep searching. These people I've called fallbacks, humans only meant to serve as the familiar. I've crossed them off the list. Taken them off the map of destinations. But no matter how many times I try, there's an island I can't remove. It's the most lonely of them all. Yet somehow, the most comforting as well.

That island is you. Everything you stand for, everything we are and all that we've been. You're the greatest disaster. The greatest hurricane in my life. The biggest storm. Electric and taking every casualty. I can never resist your tragedy. I've said that too many times to count. If I had a penny for every time I found my ship at your shore, I've be rich. Not in money, because pennies hold no value, but you do. More value than I've given you in the past. More value than I think I even know myself. You've always been able to get under my skin, to make me burn. You can get me angrier than anyone else, but you can also make me smile the widest. I just feel so much when I'm with you. I can't deny the natural responses of my heart, even when I want to.The past is so dark and foggy. By now, a complete blur. We're a storm cloud raging war on an unexpected world. Mixed in with all the violence, the blood and the dirt was something worth more than gold.

They say the best things in life aren't free. If what we've paid in dues to one another says anything, we're the best there's ever been. You know I wouldn't trade this disaster for anything in the world. I wouldn't bail on this ship, even when it was sinking. I'll be the captain who goes down when the hull gets pierced. I'm no stranger to pain, after all. I can handle you better now than I ever could before. I always thought I'd heal and move on. Instead I grew tougher skin to keep taking the blows. We're built for each other. I'm designed to handle your storm.
