Hilary Duff's Luck... Or Something Album Review
This whole album has a raw emotional energy. You can feel what she feels with each song. This is a musical journey through the last 10 years of her life; mom life, marriage, maturing... She put this together with a lot of care and thought. That is quite audible. Despite the insecurities she feels in herself, you can hear her confidence in Matthew.
I think this is my favorite song from the album. It's catchy, like your average pop song. But the lyrics are anything but. I can relate on a deeply personal level to this particular song. I could have written this song. I have many similar I'm sure.
2. Roommates
I feel like we've all been in this situation. There are few people who can't relate to this one. It happens at some point in every relationship.
It must have been hard for her to write this particular song. She was always incredibly close with her sister, but the last few years have seen a distance. I feel like you can hear her heart-breaking throughout different points in this album and this is one of them.
I also like Matt's contributions to this song.
I absolutely vibe with this song. Our insecurities can really get the best of us when we entertain them. I, myself, have never been able to look at a future. It's always freaked me out. I never felt like I was supposed to have one. So I really get where this is coming from. It's also a good commentary on taking regular breaks from social media for your own mental health. In case anyone missed that moral.
5. Growing Up
I liked how this blended old music with new music. It found it fun and light-hearted compared to the rest of the album. I've read that this is a big favorite for many people. I don't think it was the best song on the album. That's all I'm saying.
6. The Optimist
This song is lyrically brilliant in my opinion. It's one of the most vulnerable songs on the entire album. It's one of the most vulnerable songs I think I've ever heard. Even the music tugs at the heart strings. The whole song is hauntingly beautiful.
This is just a beautiful song about a relationship maturing. I could see this being a popular wedding song in the future. It's not painting the picture of a perfect relationship, but one that knows how to value the time together. It's a whimsical song with no boundaries.
I can't believe she was able to write a song about this feeling. I've never been able to put this feeling into words, but I've definitely felt this way. Even when you're completely confident in your relationship, those insecurities can creep in and really make you second-guess everything. It's unfortunate how often our partners have to suffer those insecurities.
9. Mature
I have some personal feelings about the meaning of the song, but I liked the song itself. It was smart to choose this as the first single. It's one of the most high-energy songs on the album. Despite the serious content, it's sung with a playful tone.
I absolutely love this song. I feel like it captures the things I've been talking about for the past few months. I was tired of not doing anything and I wanted to be doing something again. I think that this song is talking about her world tour and everything that her and Matt have planned for the future. It's kind of saying, "why wait?". So it's the modern version of "Why Not?".
Who knew you could write a song that perfectly captured being a mom and being married to best, most supportive man in the world? I really feel like this is the most "Matt" song on the album. I can hear him throughout the song in a really obvious (and good) way. I wonder if this is his favorite song on the album. It might be my second favorite.
Weather For Tennis is my absolute favorite song on this album.
I also feel like I want to make the comment that I included Matthew & Hilary as a couple in One Day At A Time when I was writing it. I'm glad that aged like wine and that relationship has just grown stronger over time. I knew even then, Matthew is always going to bring out the best in Hilary. I mean, she said it herself, their freak matches.
Oh, and if you haven't heard Matthew's song, Hard To Love, you're missing out.
